September 28, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian officials have added 24 names to the list of persons “involved in extremist activity,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It named political prisoner Alena Tockaja, as well as Michai\u0142 Ha\u0142a\u016dko, D\u017amitryj A\u016ddzieje\u016d, D\u017amitryj Patyryn, Janina Andrajuk, Alaksandar Navicki, Alaksiej Mazuk, Ihar Su\u0161ko, Alaksandar Barkun, Alaksandar Branavicki, Pavie\u0142 Krasucki and Natalla Mikuli\u010d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloggers Andrej and Volha Pavuk, opera singer Marharyta La\u016d\u010duk, Alaksandar \u010cacho\u016dski, Illa Salanko\u016d, Viktar and Viktoryja \u0141azar-\u017dych, U\u0142adzimir Maroz, Alaksiej \u010cernika\u016d, D\u017amitryj Ovad-Mar\u010duk, Julija Kra\u016dcova and Anastasija Kotava also ended up on the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, security forces said they arrested 10 Homiel region residents, mostly for following “extremist” pages. A Telegram channel associated with the police called the arrestees \u201cdestructive characters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, a man was arrested for negative comments about Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and law enforcers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security forces also detained a man who allegedly wrote comments about an incident in Mahilo\u016d, where a local resident had reportedly stabbed officers of the interior ministry’s GUBOPiK unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 26, a court in Re\u010dyca, Homiel region, considered a case against Halina Kachnovi\u010d, who is believed to be the deputy director of Re\u010dycadre\u016d. The woman was prosecuted under Part 2 Article 19.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (circulating extremist information). The decision is unknow, Viasna Homiel reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judges in the Hrodna region considered several cases filed under Article 19.11. Natalija Kachnovi\u010d was tried in the Vialikaja Bierastavica district, Vieranika Micha\u0142ovi\u010d \u2013 in the Lida district. The decisions are unknown, Pravo Imeyut reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 25, the Ivacevi\u010dy District Court in the Brest region considered a case against railway saboteur U\u0142adzimir A\u016dramca\u016d, who is serving a 22-year sentence. The judge considered changing the political prisoner’s detention conditions and transferring him to a different correctional facility. The decision is unknown, Viasna reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk City Court began the trial of Siarhiej Bie\u0142y, a political prisoner serving an unknown sentence. This time, he is accused of creation of or participation in an extremist formation, insulting a state servant and the head of state, and inciting hatred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special procedure case was opened against Minsk resident D\u017amitryj \u017d\u0142oba, suspected of extremism funding, the Investigative Committee reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 27, authorities transferred Nasta \u0141ojka, a human rights activist sentenced to seven years in prison, from Homiel’s penal colony to the Pre-Trial Detention Center No 1 in Minsk for a trial against female activists prosecuted under political articles, a source told Radyjo Svaboda<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Committee for State Security (KGB) forcibly recruits former political prisoners on a mass scale, the Dissidentby human rights group reported. The report concerns those released on pardon in 2024. Agents \u201cinsist that they sign a number of papers and agree to star in propaganda videos, and also forbid them to leave the country.\u201d The committee threatens new charges and pressure on families to coerce them into spying on the pro-democracy movement, according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Human rights defenders designated seven people as political prisoners: Siarhiej Botvi\u010d, D\u017amitryj \u0160letha\u016der, Siarhiej Bojka, Aksana and D\u017amitryj Ma\u0142o\u010dka, Alaksiej Klu\u0161ni\u010denka and Siarhiej Bie\u0142y.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of September 27, human rights defenders identified at least 1,325 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities have arrested about 65,000 people for political reasons in the four years since the August 2020 presidential election, Viasna reported in early August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
