October 1, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A Minsk court sentenced \u0179micier Da\u0161kievi\u010d, a former leader of the opposition Young Front, to additional 15 months in prison, Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> and Viasna reported yesterday. He was found guilty of violent disorder and disobedience to prison officers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man has been in prison since March 23, 2022. Similarly, he was first sentenced to 18 months for alleged violent disorder for his role in a peaceful protest against election fraud in 2020 and then to 12 months for alleged disobedience to prison administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar Navicki, a resident of the Homiel region’s Raha\u010do\u016d, was found guilty of defaming the head of state and insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and an official. The sentence is unknown. Authorities added him to the “list of extremists.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A court in Mahilo\u016d sentenced local resident Andrej Rabiako\u016d to two years in prison for allegedly insulting \u0141uka\u0161enka, Mayday.Team reported. The human rights group has just found out about the verdict that was announced on July 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka’s supporter Natalla Mikuli\u010d was sent for compulsory treatment in a psychiatric hospital. The woman was accused of discrediting Belarus, inciting hatred and defamation, probably for reposting “extremist” articles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mahilo\u016d Regional Court began the trial of Kira\u016dsk resident Juryj Avierka\u016d, who had already been convicted of insulting an official. The man is charged with training protesters and inciting hatred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Homiel Regional Court began the in absentia trial of Alena Ma\u015bliukova, a Viasna activist accused of supporting extremism. The substance of the accusation is unclear to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Homiel court began the trial of pro-government blogger and agent provocateur Ja\u016dhien Katlaro\u016d (aka Ja\u016dhien Kakojta). The man is accused of discrediting Belarus and insulting an official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk Regional Court began the trial of Natalla Ha\u016dron, who was arrested for helping political prisoners during a KGB raid in January. The woman is accused of supporting extremism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Courts in the Hrodna region considered several cases under Article 19.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses carrying punishment for sharing banned content. The Lida District Court tried Karyna Zava\u0142a and Vieranika Micha\u0142ovi\u010d; the Vialikaja Bierastavica District Court, Natalla Kachnovi\u010d; the I\u016dje District Court, D\u017amitryj Maisieje\u016d; and the \u015avis\u0142a\u010d District Court, Elmira Casidze. The verdicts are unknown, Pravo Imeyut reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least four people were arrested in the Mahilo\u016d region for comments on the September 23 attack in the regional capital, where a man stabbed two police officers, a pro-government source reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also said that two men were arrested for protesting and “walking out onto the roadway” in Minsk in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials added the Instagram pages latushka_ruch, ineedhelp_by, seabelpnw and several other social media accounts to the list of “extremist content.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities freed sociologist Juryj Bubno\u016d, a former professor of the Mahilo\u016d State University of Food Technologies, and ecologist Hanna Skryhan, a former lecturer at the Belarusian-Russian University (both were sentenced to two years). Human rights activists assume that they were released on pardon, mogilev.media<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of October 1, human rights defenders identified at least 1,317 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities have arrested about 65,000 people for political reasons in the four years since the August 2020 presidential election, Viasna reported in early August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
