October 1, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> European Commission spokesman Peter Stano has confirmed to Pozirk<\/em> that the European Union Delegation in Minsk has transferred some of its staff to Brussels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He attributed the measure to the state of the Belarusian-EU relationship, without elaborating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recalled staff will “continue their important work related to Belarus” from Brussels, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stano said the EU “adapts its diplomatic presence in third countries according to its needs and external circumstances.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegations’ working arrangements are managed by the EU diplomatic service and, as a rule, are not discussed in public, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The EU’s policy towards Belarus remains unchanged. In particular, the EU remains committed to supporting the people of Belarus,” Stano stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 2023, the EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, appointed Steen Noerlov as charg\u00e9 d’affaires in Belarus. He succeeded Evelina Schulz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk staff reduction marks the latest in a series of low points in Belarus\u2019 rapidly deteriorating relations with the EU shredded by the government\u2019s crackdown on peaceful protests in 2020 and its support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
