Latvia reported a 29-percent decrease with 344 attempts, while illegal crossings into Lithuania soared by 57 percent to 157.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2024, the EU thwarted about 32,000 illegal border crossings at its shared border with Belarus, with some 27,000 attempts via Poland alone, 4,500 via Latvia and more than 600 via Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Illegal Belarus-EU migration flows rose in the first five months of 2024, falling in June and July and resuming growth in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poland has not allowed at least 130 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day and Latvia, 15, while Lithuania did not report illegal border crossings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.
