October 5, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The European Union (EU) did not allow at least 251 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus from October 1 to 3 with 234 attempts reported via Poland and 17 via Latvia, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Illegal border crossings from Belarus into the EU fell considerably from early September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2024, the EU thwarted at least 32,172 illegal border crossings on its shared border with Belarus, with 27,096 attempts via Poland alone, 4,453 via Latvia and 623 via Lithuania. Illegal migration flows via Belarus dropped 5 percent year on year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU. It escalated in November 2021, with hundreds of migrants storming the Polish border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government announced the suspension of a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
