October 7, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Belarus ranked as the third-largest supplier of nitrogen fertilizers to Poland after Russia and Germany and ahead of Lithuania, Algeria, Hungary and the Netherlands, Wie\u015bci Rolnicze<\/em> reported, citing data from the Polish Ministry of Agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite Western sanctions, Belarusian companies accounted for almost 7 percent of the Polish mineral fertilizer market in the first half of 2024, coming fourth after Russia (29 percent), Germany (20.8 percent) and Lithuania (7.6 percent). Morocco and the Netherlands follow Belarus with 5 and 4 percent, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus was ahead of Norway in supplies of compound fertilizers to Poland in January-June, ranking sixth after Morocco, Russia, Finland, the Netherlands and Lithuania, but did not feature in the list of potash fertilizers suppliers due to sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish fertilizer industry representatives warned that increased reliance on fertilizer imports from Russia and Belarus could negatively affect Polish producers and cause a price hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada imposed sanctions on Belarus’ potash giant Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij in 2021 over allegations of human rights abuses. The EU has also sanctioned Hrodna Azot, a Belarusian state-owned nitrogen fertilizer producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
