October 7, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The International Committee for the Investigation of Torture in Belarus has been declared an extremist group, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry listed the torturesbelarus2020.org website, the torturesbelarus2020 Telegram channel, the ICITB2020_contact bot, the group’s Instagram page, and the email contact@torturesbelarus2020.org. It linked human rights defenders Siarhiej U\u015bcina\u016d and Viktoryja Fiodarava to the “extremist group.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In turn, the group said that it will continue its work despite the designation. It called on its supporters to take care, use anonymous communication channels and keep personal data safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pravavaja Inicyjatyva human rights group launched the International Committee for the Investigation of Torture in Belarus in cooperation with international human rights activists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee is part of the International Accountability Platform for Belarus, a coalition of NGOs that collect, verify and store evidence of human rights abuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
