October 8, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The European Parliament’s (EP) delegation on Belarus will base its activities on \u201clegitimate aspirations of the people of Belarus for European future of their homeland,” its head Ma\u0142gorzata Gosiewska said on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She pledged commitment to \u201ca democratic, sovereign, inclusive and prosperous Belarus\u201d and cooperation with the exiled Belarusian opposition led by \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noting the “fraudulent presidential election of August 9, 2020 and the subsequent brutal crackdown on democratic forces, civil society activists, free trade unions, independent media and peaceful protesters,” the delegation stressed its non-recognition of the election results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EP’s numerous resolutions over the past four years “strongly condemned the unprecedented repression and systemic human rights violations perpetrated by the regime,” Gosiewska noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MEPs along with other European institutions and EU member states should focus on the immediate and unconditional release of hundreds of Belarusian opposition leaders, journalists and activists, jailed in politically-motivated cases, her statement stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
