October 9, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Belarus ranked eighth after Russia, Turkey, Armenia, Israel and Azerbaijan, whose nationals visited Georgia most frequently in the first nine months of 2024, according to the Georgian National Tourism Administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the 5.8 million foreigners who have visited Georgia since the start of 2024, including more than 118,000 Belarusians. That was 8.3 percent more than in the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia is one of the counties where Belarusians flee fearing politically-motivated reprisals at home yet its Belarusian community is shrinking. In early 2024, 11,362 Belarusians resided in Georgia, 15 percent fewer than in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, nine Belarusians applied for political asylum in Georgia. Over the last few months, Georgian authorities rejected applications by rights defender Raman Ki\u015blak and opposition activist Maryna Zialonaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
