October 9, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Polish government has allocated additional 19 million zlotys (about $5 million) to the Office for Foreigners, Rzeczpospolita<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The money will be used to help asylum seekers, the newspaper said. It referred to social benefits for foreigners who have submitted their applications and are awaiting a decision. The number of applicants exceeded 6,000 people in September, but Poland’s annual budget provided for only 3,900 asylum seekers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In 2024, the number of accepted applications increased, including from the Polish-Belarusian border (Middle East and Africa), but also from Ukrainians and Belarusians who started applying for protection in Poland,” the article reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the newspaper, 12,300 foreigners applied for international protection in the first three quarters. They included 4,500 Ukrainians, 2,900 Belarusians, 800 Russians, 500 Somalis and 500 Eritreans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the whole last year, 9,500 people submitted their applications. In 2022 the number was 9,900 and in 2021 it was 7,700.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The increase in asylum seekers has depleted funds for social services. “There are no funds to cover medical care for foreigners applying for international protection in Poland and benefits related to their stay,” Rzeczpospolita<\/em> said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The amount allocated is enough for three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
