October 11, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian authorities have added 34 names to the list of persons “involved in extremist activity.” The list on the interior ministry website contains 4,523 entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All newly-designated extremists were convicted on charges typical of politically-motivated cases. (The charges ranged from disturbing public order and insulting the head of state to recruiting citizens for a foreign military conflict and espionage). However, only 16 were declared political prisoners by the human rights community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are: Arciom Dziohcie\u016d, Ivan \u0141apko\u016dski and Alaksandar Novik (one year in prison), Vital Na\u016dharodski and Ja\u016dhien Ramana\u016d (one and a half years), Aleh Sarhavicki, Valancin Suciahin and Maksim Chmialnicki (two years), Via\u010das\u0142a\u016d Ka\u0142avusa\u016d, Ja\u016dhien H\u0142u\u0161ko\u016d and Iryna Bandarenka (three years), Alaksandar Sabale\u016dski, Nadzieja Karankievi\u010d, Anton Stankievi\u010d and Stanis\u0142a\u016d \u0160apiel (sentences unknown), and Natalla Levaja (six years).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The others are: Alaksiej Barej\u0161a, Ta\u0107ciana Za\u0142acilina, Antanina Ma\u0142ama, Darja Davydzienka-Tarasik, Siarhiej Tarasik, Volha Dzienisienka, Alena Hucik, Alaksandar Za\u0142atarevi\u010d, Siarhiej Stankievi\u010d, Lizavieta Makrydzina, Andrej Rabiako\u016d, Andrej Karpovi\u010d, D\u017amitryj H\u0142u\u0161\u010danka, A\u0142a Mi\u0161\u010duk, Julija \u017dur, D\u017amitryj Michalcevi\u010d, Alaksiej Da\u0142mata\u016d, and Vital \u017dale\u017aniako\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are also banned from activities involving narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, arms and ammunition and explosives, for five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
