October 15, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Warsaw\u2019s Shield-East border security program is designed to ensure the deterrence of a potential enemy and prevent attacks against Poland, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said yesterday during his visit to the training range in Orzysz, north-eastern Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tusk described Shield-East as \u201can investment in peace and security,\u201d as he attended fortifications testing close to the Polish-Belarusian border together with Polish Defense Minister W\u0142adys\u0142aw Kosiniak-Kamysz, Polish media reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New security facilities will also be useful for civilians living in areas bordering Belarus, Russia and partly Lithuania, Tusk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland borders war-torn Ukraine, while its eastern borders are attacked by groups of illegal migrants backed by Belarusian special services, the official noted, pledging to seek additional funding from the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shield-East, designed to fortify about 700 km of the frontier, including 400 km of the border with Belarus, before 2028, is the largest program to strengthen Poland\u2019s eastern border since 1945.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May, Tusk announced the allocation of $2.5 billion with additional investments expected in the first quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
