October 16, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Prime Minister Donald Tusk has told Gazeta Wyborcza<\/em> that Poland is temporarily suspending the acceptance of asylum applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In today’s interview, Tusk commented on the government’s new migration strategy, which is feared to worsen the situation for asylum seekers fleeing Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The premier primarily linked the move to the ongoing migration crisis at the Belarusian-Polish border, where, according to him, Polish officers are facing “an organized, large-scale Russian-Belarusian operation to transfer thousands of people.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation is being carried out in a military manner, he asserted. The Poles are dealing with organized groups from Syria and Iran that have been trained to cross borders illegally and “commit actions that we in NATO have to recognize as dangerous,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warsaw, he added, will not accept applications from people who sneak into the country “with the support of Belarusian and Russian services.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted, however, that the right to asylum should remain for those who are genuinely persecuted in their homeland and may face danger to their lives there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, Tusk announced that Poland adopted the comprehensive migration strategy \u201cTake Back Control. Ensure Security.\u201d Earlier, he said that the strategy provides for a temporary, local suspension of the right to asylum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
