October 16, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Poland suspects a Belarusian trucker of transporting a large batch of contraband cigarettes, the Fiscal Administration Chamber in Bia\u0142ystok reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Had the contraband ended up on the black market, the state budget would have lost more than 13 million zlotys (more than \u20ac3 million), the Polish customs office estimated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While inspecting a truck with Estonian license plates driven by the Belarusian citizen, Polish officers found more than 500,000 cigarette packs without excise stamps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A criminal case was opened. The man was taken into custody and faces up to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also today, the Lithuanian Customs Department reported the seizure of a record batch of smuggled Belarusian cigarettes. Lithuanian officers found the 572,000 packs of NZ Gold, Minsk, Queen Superslims, Winston and Camel cigarettes in a Mercedes Benz truck at a gas station on the E67 international motorway on October 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
