October 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A delegation representing the opposition transition cabinet and civil society has discussed new sanctions against Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka with Greg Fergus, speaker of Canada’s House of Commons, the cabinet’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting with Fergus and other Canadian MPs took place at the Canadian Embassy in Warsaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noting the ongoing politically-motivated reprisals in Belarus, Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka urged Canada not to recognize the 2025 presidential election. He also stressed the need to seek accountability for \u0141uka\u0161enka and his officials involved in human rights abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alina Ko\u016d\u0161yk called for support of the Belarusian independent media, donations to the international humanitarian fund for reprisal victims and visa facilitation for Belarusian students.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the disputed 2020 presidential election, Canada, along with the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States, introduced several sanction packages against Belarusian authorities. They range from restrictions on the Belarusian potash giant Bia\u0142aru\u015bkalij to the entry ban for \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s youngest son Mika\u0142aj.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
