October 18, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Kniha\u016dka, the Warsaw-based bookstore selling books in Belarusian, says that access to its website has been blocked in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The online bookstore was launched by publisher Andrej Janu\u0161kievi\u010d, who fled political reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2023, Belarusian officials stripped his publishing house of the license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2022, the landlord ordered the printer to vacate the office. On May 16 of the same year, the publishing house’s Minsk store was searched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janu\u0161kievi\u010d and the store’s employee, literary scholar and blogger Nasta Karnackaja, were arrested and jailed for 28 and 23 days, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janu\u0161kievi\u010d then fled the country and resumed his work in Poland. Many Belarusian independent publishers have been persecuted after the 2020 disputed presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
