October 19, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The Belarusian-Russian treaty on security guarantees will confirm the readiness of both countries to respond to external aggression by all available means, \u201cincluding the use of nuclear weapons,\u201d Aleksey Polishchuk of the Russian foreign ministry has told RIA Novosti<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The treaty will strengthen bilateral security commitments amid “growing threats from NATO countries and the Kyiv regime,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat\u2019s comment follows Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement last month that Russia will consider using nuclear weapons in response to an attack on its ally Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moscow reportedly plans to finalize a draft treaty before the next meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Russia and Belarus scheduled for December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk allowed Russia to deploy tactical nuclear munitions in Belarus last spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late 2023, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka confirmed their delivery. A leaked CIA report suggested that nukes might be stored in the Mahilo\u016d region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moscow has avoided making official comments on the Belarusian leader\u2019s claim that he can decide on the use of the nuclear arsenal located in Belarus, although Putin repeatedly said that Russia fully controlled it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
