October 19, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>New cases of politically-motivated persecution documented in Belarus on October 18 include 21 new names on the list of \u201cpersons involved in extremist activities.\u201d All blacklisted people were convicted on criminal charges that Belarusian authorities use to persecute political opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information ministry also reported an extremist content designation for the Prakopje\u016d-Jahora\u016d bloc’s Telegram channel. Other blacklisted social media pages include a.praskalovich<\/em>, hacakma<\/em>, sigovalera<\/em>, belsat_doc<\/em>, v_o_e_v_o_d_o_v_<\/em>a, abibok<\/em>, alesdabriyanik<\/em>, partyzanka_official <\/em>and merchfreedom_<\/em> on Instagram as well as Zhive Belarus<\/em>, mijaksenija1111<\/em> and Burekas<\/em> on TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities also kept up pressure on exiled journalists, ordering the seizure of the Belarus-based real estate from journalist Ta\u0107ciana Karaviankova who left Belarus three years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus-based users can no longer access kniha\u016dka.com<\/em>, the Warsaw-based Belarusian bookstore, according to exiled publisher Andrej Janu\u0161kievi\u010d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arrests<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police arrested Michai\u0142 Kra\u016dco\u016d and his wife Kaciaryna for following opposition content, posting critical comments and supporting 2020 postelection protests, Mediazona<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Minsk student known as U\u0142ad Piatro\u016d-Bronski in social media is under arrest for allegedly calling for riots, insulting officials and inciting hatred in a Ukrainian chat, a pro-government source said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police arrested a conscript who allegedly wanted to join the interior ministry’s internal troops to gather information for the opposition, a Telegram channel linked to the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar Kaz\u0142o\u016d was tried in Voranava, Hrodna region, for sharing opposition content, the Pravo Imeyut <\/em>Telegram channel said. The sentence remains unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge in Homiel sentenced pro-government blogger Ja\u016dhien Katlaro\u016d to 18 months in prison last week, Flagshtok<\/em> reported. Authorities accused him of discrediting the state and insulting officials. Katlaro\u016d was known for testifying against rights defender Leanid Sudalenka in a politically-motivated trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of October 19, human rights defenders identified at least 1,291 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities have arrested about 65,000 people for political reasons in the four years since the August 2020 presidential election, Viasna reported in early August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
