October 21, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Latvian foreign ministry has announced its support for Lithuania’s September 30 referral to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Belsat<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Latvian foreign ministry’s spokeswoman Di\u0101na Egl\u012bte told the TV station that the ministry closely cooperates with other state institutions in assessing the referral and the arguments presented by Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She affirmed Latvia’s unwavering commitment to support the ICC in promoting an effective international criminal justice system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the Polish foreign ministry announced its full support for Lithuania’s case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its referral, Lithuania noted<\/a> that there are sufficient grounds to believe that Belarus’ security forces committed crimes against humanity under orders from high-ranking Belarusian political, security and military officials since May 1, 2020. They include deportation, persecution and other inhumane acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The justice ministry alleged that the Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka regime has forcibly displaced hundreds of thousands of Belarusian citizens to Lithuania and other countries, including those neighboring Belarus, without justification under international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
