October 25, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja’s office has unveiled this year\u2019s program<\/a> to commemorate the victims of the October 1937 massacre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorial ceremonies, theater performances, poetry readings and other events will be held in Lithuania, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and seven other countries between October 25\u201329.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The night of October 29\u201330 was one of the darkest chapters of Belarusian history in the 20th century. The Soviet interior ministry NKVD shot more than 100 Belarusian intellectuals and officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among them were 22 poets and writers, such as Micha\u015b \u010carot, Ale\u015b Dudar, Micha\u015b Zarecki, P\u0142aton Ha\u0142ava\u010d, Todar Kla\u0161torny, Jurka Lavonny, Valeryj Marako\u016d, Majsiej Kulbyk, Isak Charyk, Vasil Sta\u0161e\u016dski, Janka Niomanski, Za\u0142man Pivavara\u016d, Vasil Kaval and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were executed at the NKVD prison in Minsk (today\u2019s KGB Detention Center, the so-called Amerykanka) and in the cellars of the Pi\u0161\u010da\u0142a Castle (later known as Detention Center No 1 or \u201cVa\u0142adarka\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
