October 28, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Nordic countries have consistently and systematically supported the Belarusian pro-democracy movement, \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja’s chief adviser Franak Via\u010dorka told Pozirk<\/em> ahead of her visit to Iceland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The October 28\u201331 visit is extremely important as an opportunity to address lawmakers and government officials from all countries of the region, Via\u010dorka said. Cichano\u016dskaja will speak to the Nordic Council and meet with parliament leaders, prime ministers and top diplomats, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also be in Iceland, and it is a good chance to show the connection between Belarus and Ukraine, he noted. “There will be no free Ukraine without a free Belarus, and vice versa,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some Western politicians are tempted to put Belarus aside and sort out Ukraine first, but events such as the Iceland summit help bring it up again, he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nordic countries have supported the international foundation for repression victims and the international platform to collect evidence of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s crimes, Via\u010dorka said. They have also provided hundreds of scholarships and grants to support the Belarusian independent media, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Tens of millions of euros have been spent on Belarusian education programs, cultural initiatives and human rights projects,” Via\u010dorka asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to put it across to Belarusians that they can be better off without \u0141uka\u0161enka, the aide argued. “This communication should be permanent and public, because they [government propaganda] are trying to convince Belarusians that there is no future without \u0141uka\u0161enka and Putin. This is not the case,” Via\u010dorka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja will also talk about political prisoners and ways to free them, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
