October 30, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The central election commission (CEC) has received applications to collect ballot-access signatures for Aleh Hajdukievi\u010d and Alaksandar Chi\u017eniak, its press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hajdukievi\u010d, leader of the pro-government Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), is already electioneering for Alaksadar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chi\u017eniak, a member of the Minsk City Soviet, heads the Republican Party of Labor and Justice, one of the four pro-\u0141uka\u0161enka political parties re-registered last year along with the LDP, Bie\u0142aja Ru\u015b and the Communist Party of Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, the CEC registered the initiative group that will collect ballot-access signatures for \u0141uka\u0161enka, rejecting the applications from Alaksandr Drazdo\u016d and Jura\u015b Hubarevi\u010d, an exiled opposition politician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus will hold its seventh presidential election from January 21 to 26, with the whole election cycle limited to just three months. The previous 2020 presidential race was marred by police brutality against peaceful protesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The country has not held a single free and fair election since 1996 by the standards of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
