October 31, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Switzerland has adopted new sanctions against Belarus and joined the June package of the European Union’s sanctions, the <\/em><\/strong>Swiss government’s website says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restrictions prohibit investment in companies operating in the Belarusian energy sector and ban imports of gold, diamonds, coal and crude oil from Belarus. Sanctions also include a ban on exports of luxury goods, products for oil refining and the liquefaction of natural gas as well as items that could enhance Belarusian industrial capacities, jet fuel, fuel additives and maritime goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Existing bans involving dual-use goods have been extended to include the transit of these goods through Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exporters are obliged to prohibit the re-export of certain goods from a third country to Belarus, including equipment spare parts used for waging war against Ukraine. The move should reportedly prevent sanctions evasion via third countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Switzerland did not support the EU ban on the transportation of goods by road by trailers and semi-trailers registered in Belarus and by trucks registered outside Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU started introducing sanctions against Belarus in 2020, two years before Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine, accusing its government of vote rigging and human rights abuses. The Belarusian defense sector was targeted later for supplying arms to Russia and circumventing Western sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most recent EU sanctions package was adopted in late June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
