November 5, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>The European Union (EU) did not allow at least 235 migrants to enter illegally via Belarus from November 1 to 3 after thwarting 136 attempts from October 29 to 31, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first three days of November, Poland thwarted 140 illegal border crossings; Latvia, 76; Lithuania, 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2024, the EU stopped at least 34,367 illegal border crossings at its shared border with Belarus, with 28,412 attempts via Poland, 5,094 via Latvia and 861 via Lithuania. Illegal migration flows fell 6.4 percent from the early October and 12 percent year on year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU. It escalated in November 2021, with hundreds of migrants storming the Polish border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
