November 5, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised the <\/em><\/strong>development of \u201cfraternal Russian-Belarusian relations\u201d as he accepted credentials from the Belarusian Ambassador Alaksandar Raho\u017enik at the Kremlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI take this opportunity to wish my Belarusian friends a smooth presidential election scheduled for January next year,\u201d Putin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raho\u017enik has been representing Belarus in Moscow since early July after submitting copies of his credentials to the Russian foreign ministry. Today’s ceremony at the Kremlin involved diplomats from 27 other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus will hold its seventh presidential election from January 21 to 26, with the whole election cycle limited to just three months. The previous 2020 presidential race was marred by police brutality against peaceful protesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In two days, seven presidential bidders will start collecting ballot-access signatures: Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, his supporters Aleh Hajdukievi\u010d, Alaksandar Chi\u017eniak, Volha \u010camadanava, Siarhiej Syranko\u016d as well as former MP Hanna Kanapackaja and retired General Siarhiej Bobryka\u016d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian opposition dismissed the election as a sham, noting that political reprisals prevent pro-democracy candidates from running and voters from freely expressing their will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
