November 6, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Donald Trump\u2019s victory does not pave the way for any \u201cspecial preferences for [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka, who usurped and illegally holds power by force\u201d in Belarus, Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka of the opposition transition cabinet has told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUS Republican presidents used to take a clear stance towards \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime and we hope that the new administration will continue this policy,\u201d he said, noting that the US has always defended independence and sovereignty of Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHuman rights and democratic freedoms will remain a priority for Washington,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian pro-democracy forces need to establish ties with the new administration to inform it about what is going on in Belarus, \u0141atu\u0161ka said, hoping that Trump would coordinate his policy towards Minsk with the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has already congratulated Trump as he declared victory over Democrat Kamala Harris, returning to the White House four years after his first term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian opposition hopes that the US will remain consistent in its policy on Belarus, her aide Franak Via\u010dorka told Pozirk<\/em>, pledging to continuing and enhancing cooperation with Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
