November 7, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> For the first time, the Belarusian opposition Coordination Council will send a delegation to the January session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja’s aide told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is just one of the results of her visit to Strasbourg, where she participated in the World Forum for Democracy and met with leaders of the Council of Europe (CoE), Franak Via\u010dorka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the CoE will start an internship program for Belarusians. “This is unprecedented, since Belarus is not a formal member of the organization,” the aide noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 6, the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers voted to open the CoE Information Office on Belarus in Vilnius. The move has yet to be debated in the Lithuanian parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian opposition leader held talks with CoE Secretary General Alain Berset and PACE President Theodoros Rousopoulos. They discussed efforts to secure the release of political prisoners, facilitate the legalization of Belarusians abroad, ensure the international non-recognition of Belarus’ 2025 presidential election and threats to Belarus’ independence, Via\u010dorka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last night at the Palace of Europe, Cichano\u016dskaja opened the Paper Revolution exhibition of paper cutouts and crafts created by Belarusian artists together with the Austrian and Lithuanian delegations to the Council of Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
