November 9, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Poland recorded only one illegal crossing from Belarus two days ago, an annual record low, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One attempt to cross the Belarusian-Polish border illegally was also reported on February 24, in contrast to 457 attempts on April 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first week of November, Poland thwarted 233 illegal crossings; Latvia, 106; Lithuania, 30. Attempts fell 29 percent month on month and 62 percent annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2024, the European Union has not allowed at least 34,501 foreigners to enter illegally from Belarus, with 28,505 attempts via Poland, 5,124 via Latvia, and 872 via Lithuania. Illegal migration flows fell 13 percent year on year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU. It escalated in November 2021, with hundreds of migrants storming the Polish border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
