November 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Three Russians and a Belarusian have been released from detention in Chad, the TASS<\/em> news agency reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey were illegally held in the N\u2019Djamena pretrial detention center for almost two months,\u201d the agency quoted Russian human rights lawyer Ivan Melnikov as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Russian foreign ministry reported the detention of one Belarusian and three Russian nationals in Chad on September 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ministry, Belarusian Dzienisievi\u010d A. A. and Russians Shugaley M. A., Sueyfan S. Khasan Ali and Tsarev Ye. I. were taken into custody in the capital of the Central African country on September 19 and 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It did not specify who they were or what charges they faced. Later, Russian media began to call Shugaley and Sueyfan “sociologists.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2020, TASS<\/em> reported that “Russian citizens Maksim Shugaley and Samer Khasan Ali Sueyfan, the Foundation for National Values Protection employees detained in 2019 in Libya, have been released from prison.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union, Ukraine and Canada imposed sanctions on Shugaley for his ties to the Wagner Group. He allegedly assisted the Russian military contractor with propaganda and disinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
