November 19, Pozirk.<\/strong> Mika\u0142aj A\u016dtuchovi\u010d, a regime opponent serving a 25-year sentence, has told his family that he is ill and fears for his life, Radyjo Svaboda<\/em> reported yesterday. He had no contact with his relatives for a month and spent 21 days in a punishment cell in a Hrodna prison. According to him, the cell was very cold and the heating did not work. The man told his family that “if something happens to him, it will be done on purpose.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On October 14, the Minsk City Court sentenced 53-year-old Natalla Many\u0142a to compulsory psychiatric treatment. She was charged with supporting extremism for helping political prisoners, Viasna<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, a court in Navapo\u0142ack, Viciebsk region, started hearing a case against locals Kanstancin Panamaro\u016d, Raman Prykhod\u017aka and Natalla Kaz\u0142ova, charged with violent disorder for participating in the 2020 protests, Viciebsk, Ya Gulyayu<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vi\u0441iebsk’s Kastry\u010dnicki District Court began the trial of photographer U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Ko\u0161ale\u016d. Prosecutors accused him of insulting the head of state, Viciebsk, Ya Gulyayu<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A court in Hrodna examined cases against Ina Alaksiejeva and Jula Stasiukievi\u010d, accused of distributing extremist content in connection with social media posts. A court in Novahrudak, Hrodna region, tried Pavie\u0142 Kulaka on the same charge, Pravo Imeyut<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 91 politically motivated criminal cases were considered between November 4 and 16, Viasna<\/em> reported. Judges convicted 113 people. At least 10 trials were held behind closed doors. The most common charge was violent disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities accused Valancin Martyna\u016d, a railway fitter from Or\u0161a, of an “extremist” crime, Orsha.eu<\/em> reported. Details are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed an edict to strip 21 security officials of their ranks for “committing illegal actions in 2020.” His press office<\/em> has not disclosed their names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officers arrested Alaksandr Siezie\u0144 in Va\u016dkavysk, Hrodna region, and searched his apartment, Grodnenskaya Pravozashchita<\/em> reported. The reasons are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities also arrested a man for a screensaver on his smartphone, according to a pro-government source<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 33-year-old resident of Mazyr, Homiel region, was arrested for a TikTok video about a local traffic police officer, Mediazona<\/em> reported. Authorities also found “connections to extremism” on her phone. She was charged with several minor offenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jury \u017duk, a locomotive depot driver, was jailed in Or\u0161a, Viciebsk region, for the third consecutive time, Orsha.eu<\/em> reported. Details are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KGB officers arrested about 100 people during a mass raid on October 31\u2013November 1, Viasna<\/em> reported. Residents of Minsk, Va\u016dkavysk, Navahrudak, Smarho\u0144 (Hrodna region), Bierazino (Minsk Region) and the village of Jalizava (Mahilo\u016d region) were targeted. Some of them were charged with conspiracy to overthrow the government and taken into custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thirty-eight people were added to the list of “persons involved in extremist activity,” the interior ministry<\/em> reported. Now it includes designated political prisoners Piotra Zinievi\u010d (sentenced to 2.5 years in prison), Alaksandar Tarasievi\u010d (1.5 years), D\u017amitry B\u0142a\u0161\u010danica (1.5 years), Ja\u016dhien Blinko\u016d (2 years), Vilen Turhuno\u016d (sentence unknown) and Alaksandar Kamlonak (sentence unknown).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several social media pages, including the TikTok accounts belsat tv, Kastu\u015b, raisaom and maks356878, were banned as extremist content, the information ministry<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least a dozen Ukrainians are being prosecuted in Belarus under “extremist” criminal articles, Mediazona<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of November 19, human rights defenders identified at least 1,269 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities filed 7,400 politically-motivated criminal cases in the four years since the August 2020 presidential election, Viasna reported in mid-October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
