November 20, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Officers of Poland’s Central Anti-Corruption Bureau entered the premises of the Polish public broadcaster TVP<\/em> this morning as part of an \u201cinvestigation into abuses\u201d at the Warsaw-based Belsat <\/em>TV channel, wyborcza.pl<\/em> reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators also visited the home of former Belsat <\/em>director Agnieszka Romaszewska-Guzy, it said, citing unofficial sources. Romaszewska-Guzy denied these reports in a post on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news comes after the recent appointment of Belarusian opposition politician Alina Ko\u016d\u0161yk as new Belsat <\/em>editor in chief and the <\/em>resignation of acting director Alaksiej Dzikavicki, who was in charge of\u00a0Belsat<\/em>\u00a0since March after Romaszewska-Guzy left the station apparently in protest against a 47-percent budget cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four months ago, the Polish Onet<\/em> portal reported that 10 Belsat <\/em>managers, including Dzikavicki and Romaszewska-Guzy, were suspected of mismanagement. Dzikavicki dismissed the allegations of irregularities as lies and libel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report surfaced amid plans of reorganization of Belsat<\/em>, a TV station founded in 2007 in a deal between the Polish foreign ministry and TVP<\/em> to broadcast for Belarusian audiences. Authorities in Minsk blacklisted the station in November 2021 along with other independent media outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian opposition and Belsat<\/em> journalists urged the Polish government and TVP<\/em> to keep the Belarusian channel as an independent unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 17 media workers are serving prison sentences in Belarus for cooperating with Belsat<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
