November 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> More than 8,000 Belarusians were called up for compulsory military service in the armed forces during the annual fall draft campaign, Defense Minister Viktar Chenin has told journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official attended the oath of enlistment ceremony at the Minsk region\u2019s 72nd Joint Training Center for junior officers, the defense ministry\u2019s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Young people’s attitude to the army has changed, while its prestige has increased,\u201d the minister said, citing cases when men reportedly called military enlistment offices during the fall draft campaign, seeking to join the army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past two years, authorities have managed to overcome the shortage of personnel in the army, Chrenin claimed, noting that the number of those wishing to serve in the army exceeds available positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The military \u201crevised the combat training programs\u201d and existing approaches, shifting the focus to field exercises weapons and drone warfare techniques, the minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army has two annual drafts in spring and fall. The government introduced less stringent health requirements for potential soldiers amid ongoing Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports the Kremlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
