November 24, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> A new trend towards political reconciliation dating back to 2021 has now fully formed and may influence the opposition\u2019s strategic approaches, Juryj Drakachrust of the REF\/RL <\/em>Belarus Service, said yesterday at the 2024 Belarus Future Unconference in Warsaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the 2020 political crisis, Belarusian opposition focused on achieving quantitative goals such as increasing audiences in Belarus or boosting assistance to political prisoners, yet \u201ca new interpretation of 2020 is taking shape,\u201d he noted. \u201cIt will develop in competition and interaction with the vision of the pro-democracy forces, which has been dominant so far,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political actors may soon start discussing the goals of the 2020 postelection protests and the cost, which may have been too high taking into account reprisals that followed, the analyst said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities have been persecuting regime critics and opposition supporters since the contested 2020 presidential vote, stepping up politically-motivated reprisals in the run-up to the seventh presidential election scheduled for January 21-26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
