November 26, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> More than 5,500 children enrolled in the interior ministry’s 159 military-patriotic clubs can assist law enforcers “at the most crucial moments,\u201d Anton Siankievi\u010d, the ministry’s chief ideology officer has told journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clubs provide basic military training accompanied by intensive indoctrination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf necessary, these guys will stand in combat order tomorrow and perform service on a par with active officers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[The year] 2020 showed where the educational component did not work for us, and we would not want to repeat even 3 percent of some statements or actions,\u201d the official added in an apparent reference to the 2020 postelection protests which prompted the authorities to step up the political indoctrination of children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police officers and contract and enlisted military servicemen train school students in tactics, military map reading, field fortification, arms handling and hand-to-hand combat, said D\u017amitryj Mik\u0161a, deputy commander of the interior ministry’s Internal Troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent trends in training include robotics and drone operation, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priests serving at military units are involved in children\u2019s education on weekends, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the graduates of military-patriotic clubs enroll in higher education institutions training law enforcement officers, while the rest, including girls, are offered contracts with the military without being drafted for compulsory service in the army, Mik\u0161a said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
