November 26, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus supplies Western-made microchips to Russia, which uses them for defense production during the war in Ukraine, according to the Belarusian Investigative Center (BIC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BIC made this conclusion after investigating supply chains together with the Cyberpartisans hacktivist group. It alleged that companies associated with Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s inner circle are involved in circumventing the sanctions that prohibit such exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the Belarusian suppliers of microchips is Alexsvit Ltd, which reportedly sent 131 chips of American, Finnish and German origin to Russia between September 2022 and June 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siarhiej Barysiuk, former deputy chairman of the Belarusian State Customs Committee, has been listed as the owner since the end of June 2021. Alexsvit Ltd is linked to Viktar \u0160ejman, \u0141uka\u0161enka’s long-standing associate, the BIC noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another company allegedly supplying microchips to Russia is Logisticheskaya Kompaniya Vostok. The reporters associate it with Siarhiej Ciacieryn, a well-known businessman and sports functionary from \u0141uka\u0161enka’s inner circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the journalists, the company sold more than 1,500 American-made microchips to Russia from December 2022 to March 2023. During this period, it exported more than 215,000 microchips worth almost $800,000 to Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BIC pointed out that items supplied to Russia via Belarus can be used in the production of fighter jets, drones and missiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the buyers are the Russian Baltelektron, which is under US sanctions as a supplier of dual-use microelectronics and other technologies for the Russian defense industry, and the Green-Chip company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian Pervy Kontinent, formed two months after Russia invaded Ukraine, is the leader in these exports, according to the investigation. From January to June 2024 alone, the company sold 1,665 microchips to Russian enterprises for over $155,000. The main buyer is the Russian company Staut, which is under US and EU sanctions. Another buyer is Fregat, which names Russian defense companies as its key customers and partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BIC was founded by independent journalists in 2018. Its team was forced to leave Belarus in 2021 after security forces raided its office in Minsk. On September 15, the Supreme Court declared the BIC an extremist group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
