November 28, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A district court in Hrodna on Friday sentenced Siarhiej \u010cabo\u0107ka, owner of the s13.ru local news website, to 15 days in jail for sharing “extremist information.” This is the third consecutive 15-day jail sentence for \u010cabo\u0107ka, Hrodna.Life<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, Andrej Kury\u0142ovi\u010d, a department head at the Re\u010dyca Central District Hospital, was tried on the same charge. Judge Julijana \u0141uncevi\u010d presided over the proceedings. The verdict is unknown, Viasna Homiel<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanna Kurys went on trial in Brest on charges of inciting hatred, insulting the head of state, discrediting Belarus and insulting its symbols, Viasna <\/em>reported yesterday. It identified the judge as Mika\u0142aj Sia\u0144ko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, at least 10 people have been arrested in Homiel recently. Two face criminal charges, while others are prosecuted for minor offenses, such as subscribing to opposition social media. Most of the detainees have not carried out protest activity in recent years but were members of the pro-democracy movement before the 2020 protests. The detainees include former political prisoners, Flagshtok<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, authorities banned several social media accounts as extremist, including the Vkontakte pages Kiry\u0142 Ataman\u010dyk and Kropka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian human rights organizations designated 18 people, including Vasil Vieramiej\u010dyk, a former Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment fighter extradited by Vietnam, as political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of November 27, human rights defenders identified at least 1,286 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities filed 7,400 politically-motivated criminal cases in the four years since the August 2020 presidential election, Viasna<\/em> reported in mid-October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
