November 28, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> After Russia invaded Ukraine, a filtration camp was set up in the Belarusian city of Naro\u016dla near the Ukrainian border, where the Russian military took Ukrainians \u2013 military and civilians, including underage children \u2013 until early May 2022, the Belarusian Investigative Center (BIC) said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It prepared the investigation in cooperation with RFE\/RL<\/em>, the Cyberpartisans hacktivist group and The Reckoning Project human rights group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights activists have described the detention conditions at the camp as among the most cruel, citing evidence of torture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the investigation, the camp was located in the territory owned by the Prypiacki Aljans company on Kamsamolskaja Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The Reckoning Project lawyers, by taking civilians, including minors, to Naro\u016dla the Russian military may have violated the Geneva Convention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Illegal deportation or forcible transfer is an international crime,” an expert from The Reckoning Project told BIC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The article says that civilians and prisoners of war were held in the camp at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is an additional, separate war crime to hold civilians and prisoners of war in the same place. And unlike prisoners of war, who may be moved on the territory of another state, ordinary citizens, civilians may not be moved from the occupied territories,” said Kaciaryna Dejka\u0142a, a Belarusian expert in international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ukrainian lawyer Yulia Polekhina, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka should be held accountable for organizing the filtration camp. “When people are beaten, tortured and deprived of medical care, it’s a war crime. And it can’t happen without the consent of the authorities,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
