November 30, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian Education Minister Andrej Ivaniec has said that 150 schools teach Chinese as a regular subject and 400 more schools as an optional subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chinese is also an option at the centralized exam, he told young people at the Stalica mall in Minsk yesterday. Thanks to cooperation with the Chinese embassy, Belarus has native instructors of Chinese, he asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At the Belarusian State University’s Confucius Institute we annually train 30\u201335 teachers of the Chinese language, who receive relevant certificates and return to schools to pass it on,” the minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, 12,000 Chinese students study in Belarus, he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called the Chinese language “catastrophically difficult” and admitted that most schoolchildren prefer English as a foreign language. However, it is better to popularize Chinese than to force pupils into choosing it, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every university has “Confucius rooms,” the minister noted. He urged young people to learn Chinese, calling good relations between Belarus and China a great achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who speak it will have an advantage in the labor market, the minister said. For example, the Great Stone Industrial Park offers many jobs for Chinese speakers, he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chinese-Belarusian industrial park is a special economic zone of \u200b112.5 sq. km, located 25 km outside Minsk. The agreement on its establishment was signed in 2011 and construction began in 2014, with the first resident registered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
