December 2, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> It may be possible to \u201cfully restore\u201d Belarusian exports in the European Union \u201cin the foreseeable future,\u201d Prime Minister Raman Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka said in an interview broadcast by the state-run Belarus 1<\/em> TV channel yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe continue to work in the European market, supplying the goods that the Europeans have not restricted,” he said. “At various levels, we hear signals from the European business community that they are also exhausted of this crazy policy of their authorities, which primarily harms the interests of their own businesses and their own people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the last four years, Belarusian exports to the EU rose \u201cfrom $7 billion to $40 billion,” the official said, noting also an increase in trade with Asian, African and South American countries, whose share of Belarusian exports rose from 11 percent to 20 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka criticized the government and the National Bank of Belarus for falling short of the 5.3-percent export growth target in January-September by nearly 1 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 foreign trade in goods and services rose by 5.6 percent year on year to $73.7 billion in the first nine months of 2024, according to the central bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exports amounted to $36.7 billion and imports, to $37 billion with the deficit at $356 million after a surplus of $527 million recorded a year earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, democratic countries have imposed multiple restrictions on Belarus over human rights abuses, alleged vote rigging in the 2020 presidential election, a brutal crackdown on protesters, a migration crisis at the European Union border and support of Russia’s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
