\u0160yd\u0142o\u016dskaja spoke at a Belarusian-Lithuanian conference in Vilnius, held by the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She noted that Lithuanians are often confused when they hear Russian language in their country without knowing the speaker’s background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Lithuanians really asked me: ‘Why don’t you speak Belarusian to each other? How do we identify you? We know that most of your immigrants have normal views. But how can we distinguish you from the Russian crowd if we see you in a store and you would not identify yourself?'”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are a bigger mystery to Lithuanians than they are to us. We should draw them into our circle by our very presence, not wait for them to suddenly understand us and take an interest in us,” she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
