December 3, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>New cases of politically-motivated persecution documented in Belarus on December 2 included lengthy prison terms for Ukrainian national Vyacheslav Borodiy and Belarusians Mika\u0142aj \u0141aso\u016dski and Valancina Po\u0142az for alleged links to Ukraine\u2019s security services and preparation of terrorist acts in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charges against them included high treason, spying, illegal actions with firearms among others, the state-run media report. A judge in Homiel sentenced Borodiy to 10 years in prison and fined him 22,000 rubels (about $6,200); Lasouski, to 10 years; and Po\u0142az, to nine years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksiej Radzivanovi\u010d was tried in Hrodna for sharing opposition content; Stanis\u0142a\u016d \u0141azo\u016dski and Ja\u016dhien Mar\u010danka were tried on similar charges in Or\u0161a, Viciebsk region, the Pravo Imeyut <\/em>and Vitebsk, Ya Gulayu! <\/em>Telegram channels reported. The sentences remain unknown. Last year, \u0141azo\u016dski had served a 15-day jail term over his picture with the white-red-white flag that he posted on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criminal proceedings<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martial arts coach Michai\u0142 Halinski went on trial yesterday in Minsk on charges of participation in an armed group abroad apparently for his intention to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the electronic court schedule said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maryna My\u0161ko is on trial in Minsk for alleged links to a local chat branded extremist content by the Committee for State Security (KGB), the Viasna Human Rights Center said. Authorities accuse the woman of inciting hatred, violent disorder and defaming Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka in connection with social media posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exiled Coordination Council member Karyna Malino\u016dskaja faces similar charges. The Minsk City Court was scheduled to try her without her being present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maksim \u010cacho\u016dski and Ihar Kuza\u016dka are on trial in Minsk on charges of association with an extremist group, calling for sanctions, inciting hatred and defaming \u0141uka\u0161enka; U\u0142adzimir Ramanienka, in Mahilo\u016d on charges of inciting hatred, insulting officials and \u0141uka\u0161enka, according to the electronic court schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksiej Sa\u0142amanienka went on trial in Viciebsk for allegedly financing extremism for alleged association with opposition groups, Viasna reported. Four years ago, authorities jailed him for minor offenses, including for featuring in the videos posted by presidential hopeful Siarhiej Cichano\u016dski, who is currently serving a lengthy prison term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small-business owner Andrej Slizievi\u010d is on trial in Hrodna over online comments about the March terrorist attack on a concert hall near Moscow, the Sudy, Zaderzhaniya. Grodno i Oblast <\/em>Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge in Hrodna heard a motion to send Mikita A\u016ddzik, sentenced to a restricted freedom term in home confinement, to a correctional institution, according to the electronic court schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other cases<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fear, terror and persecution have forced about 300,000 Belarusians to flee their country, opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka said at a side event of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Assembly in The Hague.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KGB agents searched the home of Belsat journalist Siarhiej Sku\u0142aviec’s 85-year-old grandmother in the Brest region, he said on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The administration of Penal Colony No 2 in Babrujsk, Mahilo\u016d region, prohibits inmates’ family members from leaving the premises for long-term visits before the end of the visit, MAYDAY TEAM reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of December 3, human rights defenders identified at least 1,294 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities filed 7,400 politically-motivated criminal cases in the four years since the August 2020 presidential election, Viasna reported in mid-October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
