December 3, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>The Council of Europe (CoE) keeps democratization of Belarus among its priorities, said the opposition foreign affairs chief U\u0142adzimir Astapienka, commenting on the December 2 meeting between the CoE contact group and Belarusian opposition in France’s Strasbourg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the CoE member states \u201cactively support” targeted cooperation with the Belarusian pro-democracy forces while isolating Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime, he noted, praising a \u201cconstructive and engaged exchange of views\u201d regarding the CoE action plan on Belarus for 2024-2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Astapienka pointed out the invitationto the opposition Coordination Council to cooperate with the major PACE committees, the availability of the CoE normative documents in Belarusian and the setting up of the CoE information point for Belarusians in Vilnius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since November 2022, the CoE has run a contact group for Belarus, which includes Belarusian pro-democracy and civil society leaders. It also provided the pro-democracy forces with an office in its building in Strasbourg and developed a two-year action plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
