{"id":117077,"date":"2024-12-06T18:19:02","date_gmt":"2024-12-06T15:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/117077\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"online-propaganda-legitimizes-regime-by-showing-others-in-negative-light-report","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/117077\/","title":{"rendered":"Online propaganda legitimizes regime by showing others in negative light \u2013 report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>December 6, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Online propaganda legitimizes the regime by showing others in a negative light while glorifying Belarusian prosperity, said the Center for New Ideas said in a new research presented today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Western countries and Ukraine are the main targets of negative coverage, and therefore Minsk sees these external actors as a major threat, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The analysis of more than 40 propaganda accounts showed that the thematic focus of pro-government content creators is similar to the main narratives of state media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Telegram is most often used messenger application to spread online propaganda. This may be due to the messenger&#8217;s structure and interface, where &#8220;longer and more analytical texts, to which online propaganda creators tend to gravitate, look more &#8216;organic.'&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the main topics on Telegram were the war in Ukraine, politics and the economy of Western countries, TikTok and Instagram were dominated by posts about the achievements of the Belarusian regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, pro-government sources not formally affiliated with the state reproduced state media narratives, such as economic crises in Western countries and Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka&#8217;s role in Belarus&#8217; prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike well-known TV propagandists, anonymous channels and accounts on social media are more likely to attract neutral audiences and change their political views, according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The analysis showed that few pro-government content creators post on TikTok, the most popular social media platform among Belarusians\u2014only 5.5 percent of the content studied was found there.
