December 8, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM) has announced the transfer of case files on 40 Belarusian judges, involved in politically-motivated persecution, to the European Union’s authorities, according to NAM\u2019s YouTube channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Warsaw-based group led by opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka requested personal sanctions against the judges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of them is Viera Filonik in Brest, who reportedly passed at least 73 politically-motivated sentences and rejected the appeal by Mika\u0142aj Klimovi\u010d who died behind bars last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Filonik convicted a woman for a video of military equipment movements and sentenced senior Barys Vitko to more than seven years in prison over online comments. The man suffered a stroke in prison, rights groups said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Anastasija Papko also features on the NAM’s sanctions list. She reportedly passed at least 85 sentences in politically-motivated cases, including sentences to mothers and leaders of independent trade unions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case files on judges will be useful in the future to persecute those responsible for human rights abuses, \u0141atu\u0161ka said, noting that to date, the EU imposed personal sanctions on 261 individuals in Belarus, including 60 judges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
