December 10, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The State Defense Industry Committee has announced the successful trial of a Belarusian-made guided missile for the Buk-MB2 air defense system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The test took place at an unspecified training ground, with the missile range increased to 70 km, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch was the final stage in the development of the Belarusian Buk-MB2 surface-to-air missile system, which has been taken into service, with the domestic 9M318 guided missile, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The missile was designed to shoot down tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, helicopters and other targets in the environment of “intense electronic countermeasures.” It can also hit surface and ground targets, the committee said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bie\u0142aruski Hajun reported that the new missile was tested today at the Almanskija Marshes in southern Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Specifically, the test took place at the former 41st (Merlinski) bombing range, where bombing has been practiced since the 1960s, the monitoring group said.

The no-fly zone over the area is in effect until December 20. Flights of all types of aircraft at altitudes of up to 20 km are prohibited there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
