December 11, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s remarks about the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons and Oreshnik missiles in Belarus are blackmail directed at the West, Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, a Belarusian opposition politician, has told European ambassadors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing Pa\u017esnab factory workers in the Minsk region yesterday, \u0141uka\u0161enka said that he had imported “more than a dozen” nuclear warheads. There are also “about three dozen sites” to host the Oreshnik, he added. A few days earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the systems could be deployed in the second half of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka met today with European ambassadors to the EU Political and Security Committee in the framework of the Days of Belarus in Brussels, an event organized by the permanent representatives of Poland and Sweden, he said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka is trying to show that nothing can be decided in Europe without him, \u0141atu\u0161ka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our European partners have a choice now: either open a dialogue with the blackmailer and satisfy his ambitions, so that he can force the West to restore his legitimacy. This would mean betraying the majority of Belarusian society, which seeks democratic change and does not recognize \u0141uka\u0161enka. Or take a tough position of further isolating \u0141uka\u0161enka and finally scrapping his legitimacy,” \u0141atu\u0161ka asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian pro-democracy organizations stand for the latter approach, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
