December 11, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>\u015aviat\u0142ana Krucikava, a dissident based in the Brest region’s Pinsk district, took her own life yesterday following several politically-motivated trials for sharing opposition content, Dissidentby reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her most recent trial took place five days ago, but the sentence remains unknown. Earlier, the woman had served several jail terms for alleged subscriptions to opposition media outlets, a minor offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Law enforcers continued to harass Krucikava with searches, inspections and arrests, rights defenders said, citing her acquaintances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not the first suicide linked to politically-motivated persecution in Belarus that has been ongoing unabated since 2020. Some of the cases include the death of D\u017amitryj Dudoj\u0107, who went to see a doctor while serving a two-year sentence in an open-type corrective institution and jumped from a bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following year, teenager Kiry\u0142 \u0160\u010dah\u0142o\u016d committed suicide after serving a prison sentence in a politically-motivated case. In 2021, another teenager, D\u017amitryj Stacho\u016dski, jumped from the 16th floor of a dormitory in Minsk. He was under a criminal investigation for protesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
