December 12, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus has a considerably smaller number of troops near its southern border sector than Ukraine on its side, Belarus’ top security official Alaksandar Valfovi\u010d said following the Security Council meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The presence of a higher number of Ukrainian troops is no surprise after Russia attacked Ukraine from Belarus in February 2022. Still, Valfovi\u010d seized the opportunity to cast Ukraine as a major threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The defense ministry quoted him as saying that Ukraine has about 15,000 troops close to the Belarusian border, including soldiers, police officers, internal troops and the National Guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If we look into account the operational depth, there are about 100,000 to110,000 [Ukrainian] servicemen near our southern border,” he added. “So, we should certainly consider all these threats and react to them in a timely manner.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Valfovi\u010d, more than 32,000 troops are permanently stationed in the Eastern Europe, including 17 battalion tactical groups, 11 of which are just outside Belarus in Poland and the Baltic states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also noted the presence of 2,200\u20132,230 war planes in Eastern Europe, including 1,120 to 1,130 at airfields in Poland in the Baltic states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The general went on to say that thee major exercises are under way in Europe, including one in Lithuania; furthermore, Belarus constantly registers intelligence flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Unfortunately, the military-political situation around Belarus continues to escalate. The actions being taken around our country, primarily by the United States and the leadership of NATO, would not let us relax,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He accused the West of trying to destabilize his country. It failed to do so politically and economically and now relies on the military component, Valfovi\u010d claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
