December 14, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus’ interior ministry has declared the exiled theater company Volnyja Kupa\u0142a\u016dcy an extremist organization, pro-government media reported yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry accused it of encroaching on the sovereignty and public security of Belarus, as well as discrediting and insulting officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volnyja Kupa\u0142a\u016dcy were banned from Internet in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Persons who take part in the activities of this group or provide information to its representatives are recognized as members of an extremist formation and will be brought to justice,” the law enforcers warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volnyja Kupa\u0142a\u016dcy is a group of former actors from the high-profile Janka Kupa\u0142a Theater in Minsk who have fled the country after the 2020 protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is based in the European Union and uses its performances to draw attention to the crisis in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Janka Kupa\u0142a Theater was headed by Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, a leader of the Belarusian opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The recognition of Kupa\u0142a\u016dcy as ‘extremists’ confirms that the regime is afraid of the Belarusian culture, which every real Belarusian carries inside. It proves that the Belarusian culture is a threat to the regime,” \u0141atu\u0161ka told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
