December 14, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Investigative Committee (IC) is investigating an alleged violation of fire safety requirements after rescuers put down a blaze at the Viciebsk shopping mall “Belarus.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspectors at the scene are seizing documents and interviewing witnesses and victims, the IC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We formed a group of the most experienced investigators from our headquarters, the investigative directorate and the forensic department of the IC’s Viciebsk region directorate to investigate the circumstances and causes of the fire,” it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday’s fire covered an area of 2,000 sq. m. It took 90 rescuers more than four hours and 21 pieces of hardware to handle the emergency. More than 200 people were evacuated from the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sixteen people have been injured, according to local authorities. Three are in a serious condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
